|VOLUME AND EVALUATION OF THE MARKET|
A large number of transactions involving the works of Eugène Galien-Laloue are carried out every year in auction rooms, art galleries or even between collectors.
It is possible to evaluate the volume of these transactions by consulting “La Gazette de l’Hôtel Drouot”, a weekly magazine almost exclusively devoted to auction sales. It is, above all, the fundamental publication covering the entire market of French Art.
This study reveals that the works of Eugène Galien-Laloue are frequently sold at numerous sales every week in Paris and the rest of France, as well as in foreign countries. By way of an example, during 2007, the bids amounted to between €20,000 and €35,000, excluding sales expenses (an additional 20 to 25%). The end of 2007 recorded a sharp rise in the prices of paintings by Eugène Galien-Laloue in auction rooms. An illustration is the sale held on 13 November 2007 at “Drouot” in Paris, where a gouache, admittedly of a very fine quality, was sold for the sum of €48,750.
In addition, several other works also fetched excellent prices in the provinces. An example is a gouache of a view of Montmartre that was sold in Mayenne (in the south of Normandy) on 9 December 2007 for the sum of €39,600. These prices were noted for sales at French auction rooms for gouache paintings of Paris of an approximate size of 20 x 30 cm, in other words, approximately 7.9 x 11.8 inches.
As a result, several galleries that already stocked works by Eugène Galien-Laloue are now offering very competitive prices. It is also possible to find certain works originating from private collections at reasonably lower prices.
As an available collector, we are seeking such works.
Year 2008 recorded a fall of the transactions concerning works of Eugene Galien-Laloue ; few significant works were negotiated.
